Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. — Ephesians 6:11
Maybe you are emotionally strong. You can handle a lot of pressure, work for long hours, day after day after day. You are the one who is the emotional anchor in your family and everyone leans on you for support. There are many kinds of strength. But the most important one is the strength we need in the Lord.
We may forget at times but one thing is true - this world is a battlefield. Day by day, hour by hour, we face a spiritual war and an enemy who’s real.
When David was about to fight Goliath, Saul wanted to give David his own armor. So Saul clothed David with his armor and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he also clothed him with a coat of mail. David fastened his sword to his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, "I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them." So David took them off. Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine.
Now let me ask you: What kind of protection is a sling against a 9-foot tall giant who could crush you between his hands. But David did not go out onto the battlefield alone. He went with the company of the Lord. Earlier in his life, David had killed a bear and a lion with nothing more than a sling.
David said, "The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." And Saul said to David, "Go, and the LORD be with you!" (1 Sam. 17:37).
He went with the full armor of God: faith, righteousness, the Word, and truth. But it was not the sword that brought the giant down. It was not the arrow, but a stone, that crushed the opposer's head.
The armor we put on is not our armor, it is God’s armor to guard our lives against attack.
God gives specific instructions in his Word, he gives us all we need to stand strong in this life. Yet all too often we are ill-equipped, unprepared, or simply not aware of what we’re up against.
Armor up and start the day in the Word and in prayer, ask God to guard your heart, to help you stand firm in peace, have a shield of faith, and wash your mind of worry. Your Battles are guaranteed, you do not have to fight them in your own strength.
